Jack Be Nimble: Cake

Y'know, if they are pullin' what I think they are pullin', then my hat it is off to 'em. Hand-pick a bunch o' mutants that already got cause for a grudge, patch 'em up, get 'em out, make 'em owe you?

Why, I might just see shadows o' my own story there. The might've beens, they are interestin'.

Glad I got the better deal.

Wish I could get out of here. I know it ain't real, I know I will be sheddin' this place with mission end, but it still eats at you, all the hours when there ain't nothin' to do but sit an' think.

I know why you'd run. All it takes is not havin' anythin' outside you care to go back to. All it takes is the walls pressin' on you just that little bit too long.

Just a few more days. Few more nights...

I can do this. I can.

'Sometimes you can work off your bill, man. Ain't that hard.' (Crowser, NPC'd by Sao) )

OOC: Song Meme!

Do you ever listen to a song and just think "Gosh, that reminds me so much of _____"? (And then you totally forget to tell _____). Do you totally already have playlists for other people's characters? Or do you just want to know what reminds people of your character?

THIS THIS MEME IS FOR YOU.

Open for: Remy, Eshana

RULES:
Post this on your journal.
Commentors can then leave comments with links to songs (youtube, lyrics, even audio files) that remind them of your character.
Bonus points for explaining why.

X-Factor: Things Found In Trees

I will say that one good thing about a pack o' people not naturally inclined to stealth still needin' to have some... well, it offers plenty o' opportunities to have a little fun and call it trainin'.

'I thought someone was around.' (Toby) )

X-Factor: What Goes Up

Keane's suddenly out more nights than he's in. Check.

Twitches at interestin' points. Check.

Fiore's tryin' new things an' bein' all energetic. Check.

I should go be obnoxious next time the Doc turns up late.

X-Factor: Drink One Beer And Call Me In The Morning

I like the Doc, I do. Funny, y'would think that a Fed would be
the last person I'd be inclined to go have a beer with, at least if I wasn't attemptin' to get my hands on his money, but so it goes.

Because I like the Doc, I believe I am going to need to see just what's got him so easy to convince, relatively speakin', to go out to a bar on a Sunday night an' not come home 'til late.

'I do not think we have always, ah, seen eye to eye on things,' (Gabe) )
Boys. Beers. Word substitutions.

Carpenwhere: Carpenhere

She is one hell of a woman. Now that I been able to look in her eye, get the measure of her... well, it shifts things.

I ain't workin' for a black box that gave me a chance because it suited to do so. I'm workin' for her.

Evinger should take lessons. And you bet your ass I'm givin' a call next time I find myself out D.C. way.

'My work remains in Washington. Give me a call if you're in the area, though,' (Gabe, Xen, CARPENTER NPC'd by Tez) )

Carpenwhere: Productive Spelunking

That was...

Well, that was.

Smooth an' twisty all at once, made two damn' good shots although I wish one of 'em was sooner, and we got the boss lady back.

Hell of a lady, her -- not many would come out of bein' kidnapped and roughed up in a cave for a few days with a head full of runnin' tally on baddies and orders.

We did it. We got her. Best yet, I bet we lose Evinger bein' the boss now.

All I need now are a pair of pants that ain't soppin' wet. And a beer.

Carpenwhere: Bloodied Waters

Circus: general sort of scam where you have more than one person in play. At least one's the distraction. Confuse the mark, give them too much to focus on. Multiple threads, one of which is the lure. Appeals to the mark so they'll follow it. Finance scam usually. Can be modified to a physical game to cover for a wallet or other lift.

Cuban circus: Main thread is tied up with refugees/illegals, either milking them or helping them, depending on the mark. Use as a cover to get access to mark's acocunts, or to smuggle in something under their nose. Cigars = fitting.

Russian circus: Lure is tied in with the Russian mob/making an offer to the mob. Risky. If it goes south, high chance of a bullet in your--

Fuck.

Theo, Dinah, this ain't supposed to happen--

Just lyin' there, heaped like the bodies in that sewer. I seen too many bodies. Boston...

Boston, at least it was madness among all the horror. This...

This was cold and clean and they knew what they were doing.

Why?

Fuck. Every time I think of it, I flash back, lock onto the smell. I can still feel it in my clothes, against my skin.

Fuck.

OK, yeah, I see the purpose of warrants now.

They make things fun.

Merde, but I thought that kid was going to piss himself, and the way he took off...

This is dead serious stuff behind it all, but that, especially with Zaza runnin' game out front, was a job well done.

When we get Carpenter back, I think we need to get her out for beers and see what stories she's got.

'We just buy and sell. We aren't involved in any funny business.' (Zaza, GMing by Tybalt) )

Carpenwhere: Mall Watching

I suppose I can see some use in warrants after all. Let Zaza handle the official side, spin things out and get bogged down in procedure like I have a feelin' she might be very good at doing when she wants, and then I got a space clear to take a look at what I want. Basic premise behind a raft of circus cons -- give 'em a show up front, they'll be payin' less attention to the quiet fella around the back.

I just hope that this is still a rescue that all us clowns are workin' towards.

'If you have an idea, we can split our attentions. We do have ze warrants lined up, after all.' (Zaza) )

X-Factor: Empty Thrones

Funny, how a name and a face makes her real where all the years of blood and bone spent for her didn't. Funny how the 'her' shifts things, tumbles the pins on your memories into a whole new lock.

Father, mother... I ain't had either. I ain't pinnin' the titles on her now. But you read where she come from, what she did, what she does, and things fall into place. Spies are a thin edge of a coin away from thieves and grifters, and maybe you work in the field long enough you think maybe you can take a chance on someone like me. See the other side. Maybe I am more'n just a convenient mutant with useful skills turnin' up at a time they needed another body, expendable, hangin' on past when they'd hoped to be shut of him.

Maybe I am to her, anyways. Evinger... I am still pretty damn sure I don't fit into l'femme's plans.

All the more reason to get the boss lady back, if I needed it.

Irish is all the reason more beyond that. If we don't pull this off, how much of her heart and soul is getting poured into a hole that it ain't pullin' out of? I can give what help I can, but I can't do what she does. I can't help with anything more than coffee when she wants it, whiskey when she needs it, and another body when it gets too heavy to carry alone.

She'll find the leads. She will. It's what she does, and what she's good at, on top of the thieving and the spying and the kindness and the general... everything. I just got to hope I'm up to followin' 'em, and followin' right.

'Your mission is to investigate and recover her, dead or alive.' (EVERYONE EVER) )

X-Factor: Loopholes

It was the literal truth there, sure enough -- I don't generally break laws just for the joy of hearin' 'em go smash.

Well, not on a job, anyways. I mean, off the clock there's some laws an' some law enforcement that are just askin' for it.

Even then, though, moderation is the root o' happiness, as Tante Mattie used to say. Not, admittedly, about law-breakin'.

Still, if the new rules don't stop me doin' what the job needs of me, I got no reason to kick over that apple cart. And if they don't...

Well, for the one we have whatever loopholes our lady lawyer can find. Aside from that, I believe I am going to personally interpret that rulin' from on high as 'don't get caught'.

Good rule to have anyways. Keeps you tight.

'I should have known when you came with flattery in full force.' (Zaza) )

X-Factor: Food for Thought

It's true, y'know. One of the easier marks to get alongside of is the fella who's decided the world's out to get him personally. Once you got the world sectioned off into Assholes and Friends, with friends set up as the people who agree with you, and do it in a way you agree with, it gets real easy to stop looking once you got the label slapped on.

'Long as they keep acting how you expect, you never look past the asshole and you feel like you can be one right back 'cause you're in the right about it. But, more relevant to my interests, if the friend keeps going through the right motions on the surface, you'll trust 'em right until the moment you realize half your bank account's gone. Or half your classified files.

Donohue as he is is a screamin' easy mark for any of our friends in the sandbox. It might be more his tendency to go into twitchy bitchfits if you look at him in a way he doesn't like that's more to the point of what's a problem for stealth. It's coping tips for how to let people you don't like roll off of you that I don't have the time to teach him. But it's the other half that's my real worry if we're letting him off base with a head full of classified shit that includes my people in it.

'So, I need to go to some place full of assholes?' (Toby) )
Here, eat food and have your personality critiqued.
